Folks tease me because I worry, but stuff happens!
(On a related note:
1. I've been riding a two-week-long food bender using the I-burned-6,000-calories-in-a-single-day-hiking-Half-Dome defense. I guess it's time to stop that. and
2. Post-hike toenail update: Just took off the red polish, and verified the right big toenail is indeed all black and blue underneath. Will I lose it, or will it hang on? Stay tuned!)

Yes, stuff happens, but how many people DON'T fall to their death at half dome every year? But alas, for some people there is a piano somewhere...
re. post #2... say your goodbyes while you can. Good news is that the actual falling off part is painless.
good luck with that toenail. i advise a dutiful vigil. when (and if) it comes off you might not feel it or find it - like when i lost my first tooth and was so bummed because i was just playing car wash with my brother in the yard with the water hose and the plastic horse thing and dug through the mud for hours (ahem, five 6 year-old minutes) unsuccessfully and cried for days (one 6 year-old hour) for fear that the tooth fairly would never visit me on this most momentous night.
needless to say, the tooth fairy KNEW, because mom said she JUST knows, and i did get a crisp $2 bill. which is what you get when there's no tooth because you're that much more special. which of course my brother translated to retarded and convinced me a $2 bill could not buy ice cream. fortunately, i got an extra dollar for that lie and got to keep my $2 bill for a special day - which meant a trip to the hello kitty store.
thanks, nick.
i wonder what would happen if you put the toenail under your pillow...gross, i really don't want to know.
This must be the critical time for post-hike toenail molting, because the middle one of my right foot is about to go. I noticed it coming loose while I was swimming laps at the YMCA yesterday, which is another great reason not to swim at public pools.
It's still hanging on, but it won't be long now...
